Cabeza Mediana is a classic summit among local hikers, with sweeping views over the El Paular Valley and the area around Rascafría. It is a long day out, moderate to demanding depending on the variant, intended for walkers who already have experience in the sierra.

Key facts

  • Difficulty: moderate–demanding
  • Distance: approx. 16–20 km depending on the variant
  • Elevation gain: considerable (a full mountain day)
  • Approximate time: 6–9 h depending on pace and track
  • Type: full-day hike · usually circular

Starting point

Usual starting points around Rascafría / the El Paular Valley (check local guides for the exact access for each variant).

The route

The route combines tracks, paths and ridge sections with open views over the valley. The length and total elevation gain make good fitness, planning for water and food, and an early start essential. In winter or in snow the difficulty can increase considerably.

Track

Track under review – please check local guides. For now we are not publishing a specific Wikiloc URL as the destination’s official reference: we recommend checking with local mountain guides or with Rascafría’s tourist information staff before setting off.

Tips

Take a map or GPS, let someone know your plans, check the weather and do not underestimate the distance. Respect private property and grazing areas on the way in.
